Want To Play For The Arsenal?

Well from the latter part of the ad, it looks like you have to be a Dutch national. Anyhow, here is the latest Nike Football commercial featuring a 1st person point of view of being discovered and playing for Arsenal Football Club and Holland. It was directed by Guy Ritchie of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch fame, and features cameos from Arsene Wenger, Cesc Fabregas, William Gallas, Christiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Marco Materrazzi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rafa Marquez, Ronaldinho, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, and more.

Pretty slick ad- enjoy.

It's official. I hate Arsenal as much as Chelsea.

Huntelaar, Nani, and Wesley Sneidjer all make cameos as well.

What annoys me is some people insist that the person in the ad is suppose to be a real person, i.e. Van Persie when it clearly isn't. Van Persie would have gotten injured by those tackles. :D

It is a quick survey of which teams are Nike teams though....

KML-

As The Pool is an Adidas team, I'm sure that we'll see Stevie G and Torres in their summer ad campaigns and Euro 2008 commercials.

Moin- Congrats of the La Liga title for RM.

Agreed, the main character is supposed to be you- so obvious. Plus, doesn't RVP wear #19 for Holland, so isn't that him right in front of "you" in the tunnel going out for the game, even if it's just for a split second?

And yes, RVP wouldn't have survived those tackles. I wonder if "Van Persie" is Dutch for "Balsa Wood"... If her ever can get a whole season in healthy than I think he could be a monster.

Well, thank god for all that is equal. I'm sure Torres will be featured in many ad campaigns after this season.
Robert Rodriguez adidas ads ?
I wish I could photoshop, because I have some great ideas for that.

Si, si. In the past year I have seen Adidas ads with Stevie G, Torres, and I think Crouchy too.

I wish I could Photoshop too. Probably could, just don't have the time to figure it out just now.

My teenage daughter thought the ad was really cool until "you" threw up at the top of the stadium steps...

k-dawg,
Thanks man. Granted this season wasn't as sweet and nerve-wracking as before, it was actually kinda surreal to be able to sit back and enjoy a methodical run-in for once.

As for VP, know that I am pulling for him to stay healthy and show the world what he could do. The boy is too talented to be wasted like that.

Also, in the ad, Huntelaar wears 19 for the Dutch national team, so VP isn't really in the ad itself, but that's beside the point isn't it? Arsene certainly didn't scout VP on some dirty field somewhere. But if anybody was going to discover an unknown "you" on a dirt pitch somewhere, it'd be Arsene.

What do you think of the new Pool kits ? I don't like them any better than the previous ones, but I don't dislike them, either.
I thought this year's Gunners(burgandy or maroon) were pretty nice. I like the color combo and the striped socks. Kind of a classic look with newr styling.

That is splendid from beginning to end - sort of like the uncensored video for "Smack my bitch up" but with fewer tits. Any commercial that flatters the Dutch and involves Materazzi getting his Duncan Ferguson on, is alright by me.

I've been following a certain EPL stat for a few weeks, one that I felt was impressive enough to share here...

Excluding a set of 5 goalkeepers, the EPL leader in minutes played this season is the remarkably steadfast Stuart Downing of Middlesbrough. Big deal, you say? Consider this: Downing has played 3327 of a possible 3330 minutes this season.

All but 3 measly minutes - as a midfielder, no less - in such a long and grueling season is amazing. Yes, there's the argument that Middlesbrough didn't play in Europe, giving Downing the chance to rest while players from the big clubs were forced into rotation due to the added fixture load.

But for a midfielder to play in 99.9099% of his team's competitive minutes over 37 games is worthy of a pat on the back. Not quite Cal Ripken on the scale of endurance awesomeness, but impressive. The reason I didn't play the sport more growing up was due to the incredible endurance required, so a stat like this really caught my attention.

Oh, and the next closest outfield player in minutes played? That would be defender Jolean Lescott of Everton with 3284 - almost an entire half less than Downing.

Interesting info.- thanks for sharing.

As for Downing v Ripken, Downing doesn't get to spend 85% of the game standing around doing nothing waiting for something to happen that might force him to do something athletic...

No disrespect to Cal, just sayin' that comparing soccer to baseball as far as ironman/endurance doesn't come out favorable for the baseballers.
